ROCKFORD – The Versailles football team improved to 3-4 on the season with a 36-8 victory over Parkway Friday night.

George Grow led the way for the Tigers with three touchdowns. The Panthers’ lone touchdown came on an 83-yard kickoff return.

The night started out slow for the Tigers.

“They did some things defensively that took us a little bit to adjust,” Versailles coach Adam Miller said. “A little sloppy with the fumbles but something we got to keep working on in practice.”

The Tigers has two fumbles but were able to recover them.

Versailles led 16-0 at the half. George Grow scored twice in the second quarter. The Tigers missed an extra point, but kicker Jeffrey Ware kicked a 24-yard field goal with no time left in the half.

Kurtis Rutschilling started the scoring for the Tigers in the second half on a 35-yard run to put the Tigers up 23-0. Parkway answered with the kick return and a two-point conversion to make it 23-8.

Garrett Thompson made it 29-8 late in the fourth quarter with a 4-yard touchdown. The extra point was no good.

Faced with a 21-point deficit, the Panthers started throwing deep. With the ball at their 38, a long pass was intercepted by Nathan Wagner on the Tiger side of the field. Wagner returned in to the Panther 25-yard line.

Grow scored his final touchdown of the night on a 5-yard run to put Versailles up 36-8.

Versailles ran for 227 yards on the night. Thompson led the Tigers with 127 yards on 17 carries.

“Running game played well tonight,” Miller said. “Offensive line blocked well. It’s a team effort.”

The Tigers return to Hole Field Friday night to host Coldwater.

“Big game against Coldwater,” Miller said. “We keep telling the kids one game at a time. Well, if they were looking forward to this one, well, here it is.”
