Shopping has started and decorations are coming out of storage. Thanksgiving is a pleasant memory of favorite and traditional food. The holiday lights welcome travelers on state route 121 and family celebrations are scheduled. Yes, it is time to welcome December as we edge toward turning the calendar page.
A visit with Santa is scheduled Saturday, December 2 at the United Methodist Church and all community children are invited to come and share time with this special guest. Breakfast will be served from 9 to 11 a.m. Santa will be happy to smile for pictures and to become a memory for all children.
The New Madison Public Library will have its annual open house on Tuesday, December 12. You will enjoy cookies and punch. The volunteer award will be presented at a special program at 6 p.m. The award is given to a person who quietly serves behind the scenes to keep the library ready for patron service. It is a good time for children to visit the library and find seasonal books to share with parents and grandparents.
The community churches are again sponsoring a live nativity on Main Street on Sunday, December 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. Members from the churches will portray the scene of the birth. Live animals are being “recruited.”
Mark your calendars for both events and let the children share in these local activities. Amid the shopping and baking, plan to visit with at least one person who can’t attend events and only has memories of busy schedules A few cookies, a poinsettia or a card can brighten the day, and season. Your spirit will be lifted.
