NEW MADISON – A Sunday afternoon motorcycle accident left one driver with serious injuries.
At approximately 4:35 p.m. Sunday, emergency personnel from New Madison Fire Department, Hollansburg Fire Department, Tri-Village Rescue and MedFlight, along with deputies from the Darke County Sheriff’s Department, were dispatched to the area of the 2900 block of Richmond-Palestine Road in reference to a motorcycle accident with injury.
According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Department, preliminary investigations revealed a silver 2017 Harley Davidson driven by 48-year-old Daniel G. Wright, of New Madison, was traveling northbound on Richmond-Palenstine Road when he failed to negotiate the approaching curve, traveling off the right side of the roadway into a ditch, resulting in him being ejected from his motorcycle onto the roadway.
Wright, the sole occupant of the motorcycle, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, suffered what was described by first responders as a serious head injury. Wright was treated on the scene by Tri-Village Rescue for his injuries before being transported to Miami Valley Hospital by MedFlight where he is currently listed in fair condition.
The roadway remained closed for a short time while authorities investigated the accident and the scene was cleared of debris.
The accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
