GREENVILLE — A driver was arrested Tuesday morning following a crash on State Route 571.
Greenville Township Fire and Rescue units, along with Darke County Sheriff’s deputies and Greenville police officers, responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning just east of Greenville.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., a gray Jeep Cherokee driven by a female driver and a black Dodge Avenger driven by a male driver were heading eastbound at the 5800 block of State Route 571, just past Lansdowne Avenue, Greenville.
The driver of the Avenger reportedly rear-ended the Cherokee, sending that vehicle off the north side of the road. The Avenger then struck a fire hydrant and ended up in a field on the south side of the road. Greenville Street Department workers were called to the scene to service the broken hydrant.
Both drivers refused medical treatment. However, the male driver, identity unconfirmed, was arrested for suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence after performing poorly on the field sobriety test. He was transported by deputies to Wayne HealthCare.
The crash remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
