UPDATED: Godwin, Staugler and Rieman win election

GREENVILLE – With results coming in late due to computer problems at the Darke County Board of Election, most residents were sleeping when the winners were announced.

Contested races in the race for Greenville City Council were won by Clarence Godwin over Tracy Tryon in the first ward with Godwin earning 162 votes to Tryon’s 74.

Beginning in 2020, there will be a new face on council with Matthew Staugler knocking off John Hensley in the fourth ward 129-76. This was both candidates’ first time on the ballot. Hensley was appointed to Willman’s council seat when Willman was appointed as mayor.

In the city-wide primary for law director, Michael Rieman topped Jesse Green 409-357. Rieman announced early in his candidacy that he would be a part-time law director. Green was running on the premise that he would be a full-time law director for the city.

Leon Rogers was unopposed in the Democrat Primary for the third ward and Dori Howdieshell was unopposed in the Republican Primary for the second ward. Steve Willman and Roxanne Willman were also unopposed in the race for mayor and auditor.

The candidates are currently running unopposed in the November general election.

Versailles voters easily passed a renewal levy 181-45. Versailles residents will continue to pay a 1/2 percent income tax for at least the next five years.
