UNION CITY – Miami East had a 47 point outburst in the second and third quarters on their way to a 77-45 win spoiling Mississinawa Valley’s Homecoming.

Prior to the game senior basketball player Trey Godfrey was dubbed king and senior band member and cheerleader Mackenzie Hamilton was crowned queen.

The Hawks took and early lead off a triple by Troy Woodbury and a free throw from Wyatt Feltner going up 4-2.

Then a familiar name to those around Union City, freshman Wes Enis (son of Curtis Enis) scored the next 7 points on an “old fashioned 3-point play and a rare 4- point play getting fouled on a made triple that vaulted Miami East out in front 11-4.

The Hawks hung around with a fielder from Trey Godfrey, Feltner and a drive to the rim from Woodbury to get it to 15-10. The Vikings would get 5 straight points from senior Sam Zapadka and end the 1st quarter with a 21-12 lead.

Another Miami East freshman got hot in the 2nd period scoring 14 of his 20 points in game.

Feltner worked hard to try and keep up scoring 9 points and was aided by a triple from Jake Dirmeyer but the Hawks trailed at the half 44-28.

The third frame was all Miami East as they put up another 24 points while the Hawks just simply couldn’t get anything going offensively, just 6 points from Feltner, as the Vikings went up big doubling up the score 68-34.

In the final stanza senior Zach Connor would score 6 points for the MV but the Vikings had the game well in hand taking a 77-45 Cross County Conference win.

Miami East was led in scoring by Sam Zapadka and Jacob Roeth each had 20 points, Wes Enis had 16 and Nick Prince 13.

MV’s Wyatt Feltner led all scorers with 22 points and was the only Hawk to reach double figures which drew the praise of Mississinawa Valley coach Tim Barga.

Wyatt is a hustler, he scored a lot of points on sheer determination and hustle plays,” Barga said. We don’t have that with the rest of our guys. We aren’t playing team basketball we need each and every individual to play hard and collectively as a team.”

“Defensively we aren’t where we need to be. You need to make the other team afraid of you and that’s what they did to us. We got guys standing back 3’-6’ away from them … we have to be more aggressive and understand how to be aggressive without fouling, but still get up in them,” Barga added.

“Right now, the offense isn’t flowing because we just don’t want to run plays, we got guys out there in their own little world and until we want to commit and run the plays it’s going to be a struggle,” Barga concluded.
