Six arraigned in court

GREENVILLE — Six people appeared in court between Thursday and Friday of last week to be arraigned on indictments. Judge Jonathan P. Hein presided.

Kenneth D. Baker, 56, of Ansonia, faces a maximum prison sentence of 18 months and a maximum fine of $5,000, if convicted, on one count of theft of drugs, a fourth-degree felony. Baker was appointed a public defender and pleaded not guilty. He was released on an OR bond and his next appearance is scheduled for Mar. 25.

Timothy W. Jones, 50, of Piqua, was arraigned on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. If convicted, Jones faces a maximum prison sentence of 12 months and a maximum fine of $2,500. He pleaded not guilty and retained his previous lawyer. Jones was granted an OR bond and his next appearance is scheduled for Mar. 18.

Kevin M. Powell, 29, of Greenville, was arraigned on two counts of receiving stolen property, both fifth-degree felonies, and one count of burglary, a third-degree felony. If convicted, Powell faces a maximum prison sentence of five years and a maximum fine of $5,000. He pleaded not guilty and was granted an OR bond. He received a court-appointed lawyer and his next appearance is scheduled for Mar. 15.

Dustin J. Baker, 23, of Dayton, faces a maximum prison sentence of 36 months and a maximum fine of $8,500, if convicted, on one count of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, unlawful possession of a dangerous ordinance, a fifth-degree felony, and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, a first-degree misdemeanor. Baker pleaded not guilty to the charges and was appointed a public defender. He was granted an OR bond and his next appearance is scheduled for Mar. 25.

Stephen M. Burghy, 38, of Greenville, was arraigned on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. If convicted, Burghy faces a maximum prison sentence of 12 months and a maximum fine of $2,500, neither of which are mandatory. He pleaded not guilty, was granted an OR bond, and received a court-appointed attorney. Burghy’s next appearance is scheduled for Mar. 11.

Justin S. Gantt, 40, of Greenville, appeared in court for a violation of his probation on a 2018 charge citing breaking and entering. The probation violation is a fifth-degree felony. If found in violation, Gantt faces a maximum prison term of 11 months. Gantt denied the violations and was appointed an attorney. His bond was set at $20,000 cash, surety, or property and his next appearance is set for Mar. 18.
