Darke County Deputies, Arcanum Fire, Arcanum Rescue, Tri Village Rescue, Greenville Township Rescue, Gettysburg Rescue, and CareFlight responded to the scene.

ARCANUM – On Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022 at approximately 11:19 p.m. Darke County Deputies along with Arcanum Fire, Arcanum Rescue, Tri Village Rescue, Greenville Township Rescue, Gettysburg Rescue, and CareFlight were dispatched to the 4000 block of State Route 49 in reference to a single vehicle accident with multiple injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed a dark blue 2006 Ford Explorer driven by Sarah Burkhart, 33, of Greenville was traveling northwest on State Route 49 in the 4000 block. Burkhart traveled off the left side of the roadway and came to rest after striking a tree head on. Burkhart was freed by mechanical means and transported to Miami Valley by CareFlight. A front seat passenger Jeremiah Burkhart, 37, of Greenville was treated at the scene and transported to Wayne Health Care by Tri-Village Rescue. Burkhart was later transported to Miami Valley Hospital for his injuries. Three back seat juveniles were freed by non mechanical means and transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital by CareFlight.

The Darke County Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. Narcotics are believed to have a role in the accident. Suspected narcotics and paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle.

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
