UNION CITY, Ind. — The Union City Lions Club met for its first regular meeting of February on the 14th, Valentine’s Day, in the Community Room in Union City. A meal of lasagna, garlic bread, and lettuce salad prepared by Diana Dubeansky was served to the members present.

Tyler Dubeansky presented the program for this meeting. He works for NewPark Resources. The company is based in Louisiana and has an office in Portland, Ind.. NewPark places Dura-Base mats for companies like AEP to give heavy equipment access to their power poles for replacement or repair. Dubeansky said the patented mats are made of composite plastic and are rented to companies that need to use them. The mats weigh about 1000-pounds each, are 8 feet by 14 feet in size and are all manufactured in Louisiana. The mats are completely recyclable and when they are worn out or damaged they are sent to Louisiana where they grind them up and make new mats.
