DARKE COUNTY — Here are the notable baseball games, scores and updates from May 4.

Ansonia 0 (7-12, 5-5) at Arcanum 10 (13-4, 9-1)

The Trojans win in six innings on senior night and sets up a winner takes all against Newton for the WOAC conference championship.

It was the seniors showing up big in this one. Arcanum head coach Randy Baker said the team is playing good baseball right now and it all started with the seniors in this one.

“Our seniors had a great senior night, they came out focused and ready to go. We jumped on them early. Caden Thompson threw one heck of a game,” Baker said.

Thompson pitched all six innings and allowed one hit while racking up 10 strikeouts. Baker said he was pleased with how Thompson pitched and his command of the strikezone. He also said the team played good defense behind him.

It was senior Jaxson Christ getting the offense going in the first inning. He had a two-run triple to put the Trojans up 2-0. Then senior Aiden Psczulkoski drove Christ in on a sacrifice groundout.

Seniors Carson Tegtmeyer and Nate Kessler each had a RBI as well. Senior Bryson Sharp had three hits in the game. Christ finished the game with three RBI.

Last year, Arcanum shared the WOAC title with Newton after losing at Ansonia in their last conference game of the season. A win would have given Arcanum the outright title. Baker said the seniors came out ready to avenge that loss.

“Great leadership. They showed tonight, they avenged a loss that we had last year. I told them last night, ‘It was one of the worse losses we’ve had here that occured last year up at Ansonia.’ They came ready to play and took it to heart,” Baker said. “They did an awesome job. Very good job from them.”

Freshman Ethan Kearney had three RBI in the game as well.

For Ansonia, junior Treavor Hemmerich pitched five innings and had 10 strikeouts. Junior Nick Burns had a hit and a stolen base for Ansonia.

Arcanum will go to Eaton on May 8 for a 5 p.m. game and then host Newton on May 9 for a winner takes all for the conference title with first pitch at 5 p.m. Ansonia will host Minster on May 8 at 5 p.m.

The team will travel to Versailles on May 9 for a 5 p.m. game.
