DAYTON — The Lady Wave soccer season came to an end in the Division II Southwest Sectional Tournament with an 8-0 loss to the second seed Dayton Archbishop Carroll on Oct. 19.

Coach Caitlin Beasecker said with the youth on the team, it was a good experience for them to see what a playoff game is like.

“We have a fairly young team as it is. For a lot of the girls out on the field, whether they are a freshman or someone new to the program, this was their first experience in general playing in a playoff game,” Beasecker said.

Archbishop Carroll scored in bunches during the game. They scored two goals with two minutes three times in the first half. They had a 7-0 lead at halftime.

Greenville had some chances during the match. The team put themselves in a position to get some momentum on offense. They were a tick off on a pass to get some shots on goal.

Three minutes into the second half, the Lady Patriots scored their eighth and final goal. According to OHSAA Soccer Tournament rules, a game ends when there is an eight-goal deficit during the second half or after the first half.

It was the last game for the four seniors on the team. Emma Kiracofe, Joslyn Crist and the captains Josie Madden and Kaelyn Gump all played their last game for the Lady Wave.

For Gump and Madden, both of them will miss the camaraderie of the team and moving on from them.

“I’m definitely going to miss all of the girls and all of the friendships and bonds that I’ve created. I’m happy that soccer has given me that opportunity to create all of these friendships,” Gump said. “I’m going to miss playing of course. But, it’s a bittersweet feeling.”

”I’m going to miss being with the girls everyday. We’re really good friends with them since we see them everyday for the past three years. It’s going to be hard not going to practice everyday and it’s going to be weird,” Madden said. “I’m glad that I got to spend time with them.”

As competitors are, Madden said she is ready to win in the alumni game.

It was an emotional year to say the least for the Lady Wave. The team lost head coach Dave Ernst to cancer during the season and were able to honor his legacy during the season.

The team won their first game after Ernst’s passing at West Carrollton. With everything that went on this season, the girls stayed together and finished out the season strong.

“We definitely had this year be a learning experience. On the field and off the field, it’s been a big learning experience. Just how much these girls have grown has been amazing,” Beasecker said.

The Lady Wave end the season with a 1-15-2 record and a 1-8 MVL record.
