DARKE COUNTY — Here are the scores and stats from the high school girls basketball games from Dec. 8 – 10.

Dec. 9: Versailles 55 (2-1) vs Marion Local 45 (3-1)

The Lady Tigers bounced back from a lost at St. Henry and picked up a MAC win over the Lady Flyers. Head coach Tracy White said the team was prepared for this game even with the quick turn around.

“Our girls really locked in, it’s a quick turn around. We had to prepare for everything St. Henry did and then adjust to what Marion Local did playing two different styles on the defensive end especially. I felt like the girls locked in yesterday and at shoot around today. They came and played as a team for four quarters,” White said.

It was a physical MAC battle. The first half was full of lead changes as both teams did what they could to grab momentum early.

Towards the end of the second quarter, Versailles started to pull away a little bit but Marion Local kept close. Senior Jenna Dirksen hit a three-point shot with seconds left in the first half to send the Lady Tigers into halftime up 30-26.

Then is was all Versailles in the second half. They did not allow a field goal in the third quarter and outscored Marion Local 15-5 in the third.

White said everyone on the team stepped up and did the little things right like getting assists, deflections, executing their defensive rotations and taking charges. The defense stepped up in the second half.

“I thought our defensive intensity definitely turned up a level. We were all communicating and if we had the help, we always had the drop without the helper, we were rotating. There was a couple possessions where we had somebody that might not have been on the same page but they figured it out within the first couple passes,” White said.

The offense also did their part. White said the team looked more comfortable in the offense moving the ball around inside and out. The post players were able to score down low and when that was taken away, the guards stepped up and hit shots.

Against the Marion Local press, the Lady Tigers were able to take care of the ball. White said Dirksen, junior Grace Osborne and sophomore Katey Litten all did a great job handling the ball and getting into the offense against the press.

Dirksen led with 17 points. Litten and junior Taylor Wagner each had 14 points. The team went 13 for 13 from the free throw line.

Versailles will go to New Bremen on Dec. 7 for their next. Tip off is set for 7:15 p.m.
