ROCKFORD – The Versailles softball team lost its Midwest Athletic Conference opener on Thursday, losing 5-4 to Parkway.
Parkway took an early lead with a run in the first inning and one in the third. After Versailles scored a run in the top of the fourth, Parkway added three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-1. Versailles scored three runs in the sixth but lost by one.
Parkway out-hit Versailles eight to five in the game. Both teams committed one error.
For Versailles Hailey McEldowney went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Kami McEldowney was 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run. Aimee Powell was 1-for-4, drove in a run and scored a run. Sarah Gigandet walked twice and scored a run. Ashlee Voisard drove in a run.
Lauren Heitkamp pitched the complete game, allowing four earned runs and one unearned run on eight hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
Versailles fell to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the MAC with the loss. Parkway improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the MAC.
