ARCANUM — Arcanum High School’s Serve Arcanum group received Keep Ohio Beautiful’s Youth Group School award for grades 7 to 12 during a Nov. 7 ceremony at Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus.

Keep Ohio Beautiful is a state affiliate of the national Keep America Beautiful organization.

The annual KOB meeting included an awards luncheon during which affiliates, partner organizations, individuals and others were honored for their environmental efforts in 10 categories. The awards were based on environmental projects completed between June 1, 2017 and Aug. 1, 2018.

Arcanum-Butler Superintendent John Stephens said Serve Arcanum was nominated by Darke County Solid Waste District Director Krista Fourman.

“The program has been a wonderful addition to our service projects, and I can’t speak highly enough about the work our kids have done since it began,” he said. “Arcanum Principal Jason Stephan and his staff really work to instill the idea of servant leadership in our school and community. The day of service allows our students to ‘pay back’ all of the wonderful support from our community and help those who may need a little extra hand. Again, we are honored to be recognized and appreciate Krista nominating our high school.”

“2018 was a productive year for Keep Ohio Beautiful affiliates and their partner organizations throughout the state,” KOB Executive Director Michael Mennett said. “We congratulate and thank the winners for their dedication to making Ohio clean and beautiful.”
