Window Sponsors announced for the Opera House

This past week the Arcanum Preservation Society announced the first round of window sponsors at the old Opera House. Please join me in thanking these individuals for being a part of the ongoing story of the Opera House and the continuing restoration. Sponsors announced are Myrna Clark Hunt, who served as the Village Treasurer from 1977 to 1985; Tom and Traci Besecker of Hi-Tec Automotive; Rex and Annette Stewart of Stewart Farms; Joan Rench, Tim and Angela Herron, Nick and Sally Rader, Merrie Ann Brown, and AHS Class of 1966. The APS is working to restore the Historic Arcanum Opera House. The goal for 2021 is to start the process of restoring the 100 windows in the building. Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500. Thank you for your support. If you are interested in participating in this project please call 937-459-1157.

The Arcanum VFW will be conducting a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Flag Day, June 14. If you have old, torn, faded, worn-out flags, you can drop them off at the VFW (311 South Albright Street, Arcanum) during business hours. Please put in your old worn flag in the red tote in the entrance area, do not put on floor please.

Looking for a place to recycle your batteries? The Arcanum Public Library has a collection box just right inside the front door to take your used batteries. Please recycle and do no place your batteries in the trash. The APL is located at 101 West North Street, Arcanum.

The APL’s Summer Reading at the Arcanum Public Library began yesterday, June 7 and continues until July 31. Pick up a calendar of events and reading log when you register. Register before June 19 for a chance to win four tickets to Kings Island.

Looking to donate your old glasses to a good cause? The Arcanum Lion’s Club will take your old, used glasses for you. You can drop them off at our local VFW, Fourman’s Variety Store, or at Huston’s Restaurant.

Congratulations are in order to all our AHS Spring athletes! The Boys’ Varsity baseball team had a super season and played deep into district tournament play. The Girls’ Varsity softball team finished the regular season 12-0 and won the CCC title. Coach Morris was named the coach of the year in the Cross County Conference. Our track and field athletes were also very successful and the following individuals qualified for the Regional Meet: Girls’ team placed third out of 16, Boys’ team placed fourth out of 16, Aidan O’Brien in the 100 yard hurdles, Tyler Pfahler in the 110 hurdles, Brooklyn Miras in the 3200, Ashton Paul in the 3200, Landen Kreusch in the 800, Chase Werling and Ethan Rieman in the shot put, Ashton Etherington in the 400 and the high jump, Trista Hollinger in the shot put and discus, Eliza Smith and Mariah Kreusch in pole vault, Mason Shelton in the pole vault, and the girls 4 x 800 and the boys 4 x 800. Awesome job AHS Spring sports — we are proud of you!

Arcanum High School graduation was held on Saturday, May 29 in the high school gymnasium. The Arcanum High School 2021 Valedictorians were Landen Kreusch, Nick Fry, Jonathan Riley, and Karr Stump. The Salutatorian was Allie Barry. Congratulations to these students on an outstanding career in their futures. Commencement speaker was 1999 AHS Graduate, Dr. Aaron Trask. Prom King was Cael Gostomsky and Queen Allie Barry.
