Versailles baseball team wins MAC opener vs. New Knoxville

NEW KNOXVILLE – The Versailles baseball team won its Midwest Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday, defeating New Knoxville 11-0 in a five-inning run rule.

Versailles scored three runs in the top of the first inning, seven in the third and one in the fourth while shutting out New Knoxville.

The Tigers had nine hits and no errors in the game. The Rangers had just two hits and committed four errors.

Keaton McEldowney earned the win for Versailles as he pitched three innings and allowed no runs on one hit, no walks and six strikeouts. Isaac Ruhenkamp pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out three.

Keaton McEldowney went 3-for-4 in the game with three RBIs and two runs scored. Kyle Subler was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Jared Niekamp went 1-for-1 with two walks, two RBIs and a run scored. Jacob Watren was 1-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and a run scored.

Kurtis Rutschilling was 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Cole Niekamp went 1-for-3 and scored a run. Brett McEldowney drove in two runs. Adam Lyons drove in one run and scored two. Collin Peters walked three times and scored a run.

Versailles is now 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the MAC. New Knoxville fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the MAC.
